Causes For Dark Underarms

So, why our underarms are dark? There are many reasons.

First, if you are shaving your underarms usually, it gets dark. WAIT! This article is not suggesting you stop removing the hair in your underarms. But there is a way.

When you shave your underarms, it cuts only the surface hair and it remains in the hair follicle under your skin surface. When you shave regularly, your skin gets harder and becomes dark as well. We repeatedly shave our underarms because it is the quickest way.  

You can use laser hair removal treatment as an alternative for this issue.  Also, if you are still following the shaving method, make sure to exfoliate your underarms before shaving, using a coffee scrub (Do not add sugar) or any other mild scrub. Exfoliating your underarms helps you to remove the dead cells of the skin. After that, you can shave your underarms and apply a moisturizer.

The second cause of underarm darkness is using low-quality deodorants and antiperspirants. Using a deodorant for your personal hygiene is not incorrect. But you need to choose a good product when you use it. 

Thirdly, friction caused by tight clothes is another reason for underarm darkness. 

Also, some other factors like hyperpigmentation and melasma are also causing darkness in the underarms.

Causes For Dark Knees And Elbows

The darkness on the knees and elbows, there are many reasons. 

One of the reasons is, exposure to sunlight, if you are not provided proper sun protection to your skin, then it will burn and get dark.

Some hormonal imbalances can cause darkness in the knees and elbows. If you have diabetics and girls, if you have PCOS, your body faces a serious hormone imbalance and it may result in darkness in the knees and elbows.  

Certain medications like birth control pills can also make your elbows and knees dark.

If you regularly shave, it may also be a reason for darkness in your knees and elbows.

Also, some skin care products and the buildup of dead cells can make dark knees and elbows.

Causes For Dark Neck

The most common reason for a dark neck is obesity. 

Secondly, your neck can be dark if you have Acanthosis Nigerians and your skin looks dark, thick, and velvety. This condition does not only affect your neck. The other parts of your body such as body folds, creases, and armpit can also be affected by it. 

Thirdly, if you have too much insulin in your blood, then your neck becomes dark. At a time like that, you need to test your blood sugar or visit your doctor.

Also, if your hormones are imbalanced for diabetics and PCOS, you may also have a dark neck.

If you are not washing your neck properly, the dead cells build up and it also causes for dark neck.

Now we know about how our armpits, knees, neck fat, and elbows getting darker.

Then the next step is how to get rid of these serious issues. I have mentioned some amazing home remedies That I followed usually to prevent my armpit, knees, and elbows from getting darker. So have a look and you can also follow these things.

1. Exfoliate your skin twice a week

As we know already, one of the main reasons that commonly affect these three areas is the buildup of dead skin cells. In order to get rid of them, you need to exfoliate your armpit, neck, knees, and elbows. You can use coffee scrub, sugar and honey scrub, or oatmeal and honey pack to exfoliate. Also, keep in mind to use mild ingredients especially when you use the scrub for underarms.

Some suggest the ingredients like apple cider vinegar and baking soda as an exfoliator. But I am not because I already used baking soda for my underarms and believe me it’s not comfortable. I felt a little bit burning.

2. Apply a Pack 

Applying a pack using natural ingredients is a must to get rid of the darkness in your armpits, knees, neck, and elbows. 

There are many DIY packs that we can use. 

  1. You can use a sandalwood pack by using 2 tsp of rosewater and 2tsp of sandalwood powder. Make it a thick paste and apply it to your armpits, knees, elbow, and neck. Leave it for 30 minutes and gently wash it. Do this treatment at least once a week for the best results.   
  2. Make an orange peel powder pack using orange peel powder and honey. You can apply this thick paste to your dark areas and leave it until dry. Finally, you can wash it. Orange peels can lighten your skin as well.
  3. Gram flour pack also brings you results. First, you need to add gram flour, yogurt, turmeric powder, and lemon juice together to make a thick paste. Then you can apply it to your underarms, knees, and neck. After leaving it for 30 minutes, you can clean it with lukewarm water.

3. Applying potato juice

Potato is a natural and good bleaching ingredient that can lighten your underarms, knees, elbows, and neck fat. You can use the extract or the juice of potatoes and apply it to the places you want to lighten and wait until 15 minutes. For good results, you need to apply this twice a day.

4. Coconut oil massage

Coconut oil is enriched with Vitamin E which helps to get fair skin by testing hyperpigmentation. Apply some coconut oil to your armpits, knees, neck, and elbows, and massage well. After 15 minutes of leaving it on your skin, you can wash it with mild soap. You can do this treatment at least 3 times per week for good results. 

5. Aloe vera extract

We have discussed multiple times the benefits of aloe vera on our skin.

Shortly, aloe vera can moisten our skin and is rich in antioxidants and other ingredients that help to create new cells and repair them. Take pure aloe vera extract and apply it to your armpits, knees, neck, and elbows, and gently massage it. After 20 minutes wash it off. Do this treatment every day for the best results.

6. Cucumber extract

Cucumber is also very important for skin nourishing and lightening. Its soothing properties can repair damaged cells and remove dead cells. Take the cucumber extracts and mix them with lemon juice. Then apply it to your neck, armpit, or knees using cotton balls. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash it.

7.  Apply milk and curd 

Milk is also a good agent of skin whitening and riched in fatty acids and vitamins also. Mix some milk with curd and ally it on the knees, neck, elbows, and armpit. Leave it for 10-20 minutes and wash with lukewarm water. Repeat this at least twice a week. 

8. Apply a good moisturizer

Even though you have done all of the above remedies if you fail to give the everyday moisturizer for your armpit, knees, neck, and elbows, you will not see a clear change. Choose a good moisturizer and apply it to your areas after having a shower.
